RUMOUR: William Nylander Blocks Trade That Would've Sent Him to Struggling Team
Recent rumours have arisen that William Nylander could be blocking a potential blockbuster trade between the Toronto Maple Leafs and this West Coast franchise.
Nylander's Future in Toronto
As time passes, the likelihood that Nylander ends up in Toronto after this season gets lower and lower. With the forward expecting a big pay raise, and the Leafs running out of cap room, all signs are pointing towards a potential departure. The only question is when that departure could come.
It is now rumoured that Nylander has been a roadblock in a potential trade between the Leafs and the Arizona Coyotes.
Nylander Says No
Rumour has it that the Leafs and the Coyotes were exploring a trade that involved Nylander and Clayton Keller. However, Nylander was not willing to extend after a potential year in Arizona.
The Maple Leafs and Arizona Coyotes explored a deal involving Nylander and Keller Nylander is unwilling to extend in Arizona as of now.
If Keller wants out of ARZ... A Keller-Nylander swap would work for both teams
A trade that involves both Nylander and Keller makes a lot of sense. The two of them put up similar points last season, and are both young stars with lots of years in the NHL remaining. Nylander brings a bit more experience to the Coyotes, something that the struggling franchise could use.
Obviously, with Keller being younger and on a smaller contract, the Leafs might have to add some spice to the deal with other assets. However, making the trade would also eliminate the distraction that is Nylander's future before training camp.
Though, it appears we won't be seeing this future anyway.
