The NHL's expansion over the past decade has opened up plenty more spots around the league, and with so many young stars and veterans trying to make it, it will always be tough, especially for a veteran looking to return to the top tier league.

A former first-round pick

With that said, we've seen many comeback stories in the past few years, and now we may have our next one, as the former Buffalo Sabres first-round pick Tyler Ennis is reportedly attempting to make his way back to the league in 2023-24.

According to a report from an Edmonton Oilers insider, Ennis the Edmonton native who spent the 2022-23 season in Switzerland, is eyeing a comeback to the NHL, with a PTO a major possibility.

Tyler Ennis was at Perry Pearn's 3on3 camp and hearing he might get PTO, maybe from Western based team. Still has irons in fire back in Switzerland where he played last season. - Jim Matheson

A solid career thus far

The 33-year old may never have become the star some expected, but throughout his career, he remained solid and productive at the NHL level, playing in 700 games while tallying 144 goals and 346 points, with his career high coming in 2013-14 at 42 points.

It's unclear just how genuine the interest around the league in Ennis is, but if he's serious about a comeback, it's likely that a team out there is willing to give him a PTO.
