The Winnipeg Jets announced Tuesday that they have signed forward Jansen Harkins to a one-way, two-year contract that will pay him $725,000 per season.

If the name Jansen Harkins sounds familiar, it probably has to do with what Jets head coach Paul Maurice said about him to the media in early August. Maurice praised how hard Harkins has worked to get to the NHL level, saying that nothing has come easy to him in his career. Perhaps the line that stood out most was when he said he believes Harkins will stick around in the NHL for the next 14 years. While only time will tell on that, it is clear the 23-year-old has already made a big time impression on his head coach in just a short amount of time.

Harkins, 23, played the first 30 games of the 2019-20 season with the Manitoba Moose, posting 31 points in 30 games, which matched his point total from the season prior despite playing in 40 less games. His outstanding play earned him his first NHL call up, and he made the most of it with seven points in 29 games. While his offensive production wasn't outstanding, his work ethic allowed him to become a full-time player for the Jets. The 2015 second-round pick (47th overall) seems like a near lock to make the Jets out of training camp this upcoming season.
