Since being drafted 8th overall in 2019, Philip Broberg has struggled to adjust to the NHL level. Playing only 69 career NHL games, Broberg has not found his offensive pop yet with only 11 points.
However, he is very toolsy being a big body who skates quite well. He still has lots of potential as a player but he needs to be in the proper environment to unlock it.
Recently in an article for The Hockey Writers, Jesse Courville-Lynch went over three teams he thinks could be good destinations for Broberg.
The three teams he saw fit were the Canadiens, the Senators, and the Kings.
While some make more sense than others, they could all be places where Broberg finds his groove.
Why Montreal Works
Montreal is a young team on the rise with Kaiden Guhle headlining the young defense. If Broberg were to be traded to Montreal, a better player like Mike Matheson is heading back and Broberg would have a slot open to finally prove himself as an NHLer.
Why Ottawa Works
Ottawa, like Montreal, is quite young. Their defense currently has Jake Sanderson, Thomas Chabot, Jakob Chychrun, and Artem Zub filling out the top. However, they are in a cap crunch and could be forced to part ways with a player like Zub and Broberg could head back as a part of a potential deal.
Why LA Works
LA is in a positon similar to Edmonton. Both are competing for a playoff spot but could swap top 2019 picks Alex Turcotte and Philip Broberg to give both a fresh start.
While these teams could all trade for Broberg, there are plenty of other candidates. Broberg and Edmonton are in seemingly different spots and we could watch Edmonton ship Broberg out for any piece that bolsters their current roster.
