Philadelphia Flyers GM, Daniel Briere, is worried about Matvei Michkov and feels like there's a chance he wasted his pick.

Briere Worried About Michkov

Matvei Michkov was one of the most polarizing prospects of the 2023 draft. Some saw him as on par with Connor Bedard in terms of talent while others thought he was too much of a risk to take with a top pick.

When the dust settled, the Russian phenom fell to the Philadelphia Flyers with the 7th pick and Flyers GM Daniel Briere has admitted that he is nervous over the pick.

Are we scared? Yes, like everyone else. That's probably why he fell to us at #7.

We hope and trust that one day he'll want to come and play. We know he wants to play in the NHL, but a lot of things have to fall into place." - Daniel Briere

The factors that need to fall into place are that Michkov wants to come over after his KHL contract ends, Michkov is allowed to come over, and that he proves worthy of coming over.

These factors are all out of Philadelphia's control and now they have to wait to see if he is able to come over or if they wasted a top 7 pick on somebody who could never play for them.
