Brady Tkachuk Compares Himself to Conor McGregor in New Interview
Senators Captain Brady Tkachuk is no stranger to fighting, but fighting at the Rangers historic Madison Square Garden is another beast says the Sens Star.
Tkachuk Compares MSG to UFC Fight
Tkachuk described the feeling in an interview on 'Dropping The Gloves', hosted by former NHL All-Star John Scott, saying that fighting Rangers Captain Jacob Trouba at Madison Square Garden was a shocking mental experience, comparing the event to feeling like MMA Star Fighter Conor McGregor.
Tkachuk, no stranger to physicality, was third this season in Penalty Minutes with 126, 3 PIM's ahead of brother Matthew, who placed right below him at 4th, but the experience of fighting at the legendary Madison Square Garden had a special meaning.
MSG Holds A Special Place In Sports History
Madison Square Garden, the oldest active NHL arena, has hosted the Rangers since 1968, being one of the most famed sporting arenas in all of North American sports. The Rangers won the 1994 Stanley Cup in a Game 7 against the Vancouver Canucks at Madison Square Garden. 'The Garden' as it's known, also hosts the NBA's New York Knicks, who won titles in 1970 and 1973 at MSG, and has held multiple legendary fights, including Boxing's 'Fight Of The Century' between then-Heavyweight Champion Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali, considered to be one of the greatest sporting events in History, as well as Ali's first professional boxing loss. McGregor has fought at MSG before, winning the UFC's Lightweight title at 'UFC 205' against Eddie Alvarez. Tkachuk may have not had such a major fight of that magnitude, but the glamor of the famed New York arena clearly had it's hold on the Ottawa star.
