Any other year it would be very strange to see an unrestricted free agent like Mike Hoffman still on the market. Since 2014-15, the 30-year-old has been one of the most consistent goal scorers in the league, topping out at a career high of 36 goals in 2018-19, and recording 50 and 60+ points for five seasons in a row. 2020 is not any other year, though and Hoffman remains on the market while teams struggle with cash flow issues due to the COVID-19 pandemic. His agent, Robert Hooper, says there is plenty of interest.

"I think some of the teams that would love to add Mike Hoffman to their roster have had difficulty moving pieces around in order to make room for a guy like Mike," Hooper told The Athletic. "… Who doesn't want a 30-goal scorer in your lineup? Raise your hand."

Hooper added Hoffman is open to a one-year deal if that's what it takes.

"There's no issues on a one-year deal," Hooper said. "Obviously, if you're going to take a one-year deal, you want to put yourself in a good situation because you're going to be back in the market next year again."

There have been several one year contracts signed this offseason as many teams are worried about long-term financial commitments and players realize they're likely to get more money if and when the pandemic ends. Hooper did not specify which teams are expressing interest in Hoffman but said there's no rush to get a deal done.

"I think it's just a situation where until we know when the puck's being dropped, there's no pressure on either side to really do anything," Hooper said.
