Back in March, the IIHF came together to discuss the potential of allowing them to return to the international stage, but instead they opted to not make that change.

Now, the IIHF President, Luc Tardiff has told reporters that the discussion will happen soon, with March 2024 tabled as the next time they will come together and potentially overrule their decision.

The issue of the return of Russian athletes will be considered in March 2024? Yes, it is. At the moment we are in contact with the FHR.

2024 return?

With the 2024 IIHF World Championships and a potential World Cup of Hockey being discussed for 2025 or beyond, this decision could be crucial to the international stage, as both teams have always brought plenty of fire and intrigue to the international stage.

Given that the likes of Alex Ovechkin and others still compete at the NHL level, there's a good possibility that the ruling will be overruled in March, but given how important the international hockey stage is to the sport, there's no telling what could happen.
