Trevor Zegras Sends a Firm Message to Ducks Management With Contract Still Looming
With each passing day, the off-season nears closer to an end but there are still some general managers with work to do before the season begins. Among those, the Anaheim Ducks are in a situation that seems to be the most pressing.
Two Key Pieces Still Need Contracts
The Anaheim Ducks are currently being led into an extremely bright future by their general manager Pat Verbeek. There are however two significant pieces of their roster that are currently in need of a contract extension. Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysdale are still restricted free agents and while Drysdale situation seems to be easier to resolve, it's likely to be more difficult with Zegras.
What's the Holdup?
It's reasonable to assume that Zegras is likely to aim for a similar deal as his good friend Cole Caufield who recently signed an 8 year, $62,800,000 contract with the Montréal Canadiens. In an interview with NHL.com, Zegras mentioned that he has no intention on flying back to California until there is a contract in place.
"I'm well set up here (Stamford, Connecticut) to train and skate. No matter where we are with the contract, I know I'll be able to prepare properly for the upcoming season." -Trevor Zegras
Earlier this week, the Ducks finally figured out an extension for Troy Terry, another one of their significant RFA's. He is currently the highest paid player in the Ducks organization at $7,000,000 per year. Undoubtedly that will change once Zegras has reached his agreement on his new extension.
Ducks fans can only hope that this deal gets put in place very soon.
