The Pittsburgh Penguins failed to make the playoffs last year for the first time in 16-years, and now, it appears they could be looking to make big changes for one last Cup run under their veteran core.

A big weekend ahead

The Penguins have been hot on the rumour mill as of late, with major links to Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson, and now, they may have their opportunity to strike.

Now, after settling their arbitration case with forward Drew O'Connor, their second buyout window has officially opened, and will stay that way for the next 48 hours.

A big move coming?

What that means is that if the Penguins have a big move in mind like a blockbuster move for Karlsson, now is the time for them to clear cap space, and with a hefty $11 million cap hit, they will need to do so if this is the move they want to make.

With Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang all in the twilight of their careers, making one last Cup run could be the play, and with Kyle Dubas now in charge, this is the time for him to make a big move that could alter the landscape of the entire Eastern Conference.
