It's been an eventful last seven days for fans of the Montreal Canadiens. Last Tuesday, the Habs dealt forward Max Domi to Columbus for Josh Anderson, who signed an extension only days later. Then yesterday, they landed a top free agent in Tyler Toffoli who signed a four-year deal worth $17 million ($4.25 million AAV). Just when the news was getting exciting about next season for the Canadiens and their fans, a report broke on twitter from TSN's Rick Dhaliwal that contract talks between forward Brendan Gallagher and the Habs have hit a stalemate, and they have now broken off.

Gallagher's agent Gerry Johannson confirmed the news to Pierre LeBrun of TSN.

Gallagher, 28, was drafted in the fifth round, 147th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2010 NHL entry draft. In 547 regular season games, he's put up 334 points (173 G, 161 A), 312 penalty minutes, and is a +58. In 49 career playoff games, Gallagher has 25 points (11 G, 14 A), 21 penalty minutes, and is a -6.

Internationally, Gallagher has represented Canada on a few occasions, most recently at the 2016 IIHF Men's World Hockey Championships. He had 5 points (2 G, 3 A), 12 penalty minutes, and was a +5 in 10 games as Canada won their 26th gold medal.
