The Buffalo Sabres are reportedly looking to move on from one of their most productive goal scorers.
Buffalo's Bright Future
The Buffalo Sabres are one of the most exciting young teams in the NHL. After the emergence of Tage Thompson and the resurgence of Jeff Skinner, the Sabres will be looking to finally end their decade-long playoff drought.
They also have young stars such as Rasmus Dahlin, Owen Power, Jack Quinn, Dylan Cozens, and J.J. Peterka.
On top of having a competitive team already, they also have one of the strongest prospect pools in the NHL consisting of talents like Zach Benson, Jiri Kulich, and Noah Ostlund.
Due to this, the Sabres may be looking to move on from one of their established stars in favor of bringing up young talent.
Buffalo Looks To Move On From Olofsson
Last year, Victor Olofsson had a career year scoring 28 goals in 75 games. He proved himself to be quite the lethal scorer finishing 5th on the Sabres in scoring.
However, despite his success, the Sabres are looking to move on from him.
Per reporter James Wilson:
"Despite his impressive performance last season, where he achieved a career-high of 28 goals, the team has chosen not to pursue a contract extension with him at this time.
This move suggests that Olofsson's time with the Sabres may be coming to an end, and he could be exploring other options as an unrestricted free agent after the upcoming season."
Moving on from a goal scorer as gifted as Olofsson would mean that the Sabres have full confidence in their young players and their ability to replace the goal scorer.
