Vladimir Tarasenko declined some big-ticket offers from teams and eventually had to settle for less than he thought he was worth.

Tarasenko Signs In Ottawa

Yesterday, Vladimir Tarasenko signed with the Ottawa Senators.

The deal he wound up signing was worth $5 million for one year.

Tarasenko Misses Out On Millions

Recently, it has come out that Tarasenko had far higher offers from other teams and an even better offer from the Senators before he eventually settled for his one-year deal in Ottawa.

By waiting, Tarasenko screwed himself out of millions. First off, he missed out on $17 million by not signing in Ottawa.

Next, he missed out on an even $1 million by avoiding San Jose.

Finally and most confusingly, he skipped out on Carolina to take a $250,000 pay cut to play in Ottawa. Not only is Carolina more competitive, but they also have lower taxes than Ottawa.

Assuming Tarasenko's account does nothing regarding his taxes, Tarasenko would have gotten $2,785,448 after tax in Carolina with the reported contract but he eventually settled for $2,223,518 in Ottawa, missing out on over half a million dollars.
