The Montreal Canadiens appear to understand their path for 2023 1st Round Pick David Reinbacher.

Reinbacher may soon be in the NHL

David Reinbacher, the 5th Overall Pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, is either going to be playing for the Canadiens, or return to Kloten of the NL, according to Swiss Hockey News, citing Swiss outlet 'Neue Zürcher Zeitung'.

According to the reports, AHL Laval is not a current option for Reinbacher, and if he does not make the team, he will return to Kloten for his development. If correct, this would hint at a willingness to let Reinbacher develop abroad, after 2022 1st Overall Pick Juraj Slafkovsky struggled slightly in his first season with the Canadiens, leading to questions over if Slafkovsky needed more time to mature, although Slafkovsky still has good promise.

Reinbacher, 18, had 3 Goals and 22 Points in 46 Games for Swiss club Kloten, the most by a Draft Eligible in the last 15 years, passing Predators star Roman Josi, who had 8 Points in 35 Games for Bern in 2008.

Reinbacher was the 5th ranked European Skater by NHL Central Scouting, as well as ranked 8th by TSN's Bob McKenzie, 16th by DobberProspects, 6th by The Athletic's Corey Pronman and 12th by Scott Wheeler, also of The Athletic.
