Erik Karlsson is the biggest name on the trade market by far. He is coming off a Norris-winning season which saw him post 101 points as a defenseman. Due to this, he is an intriguing fit for many contending teams.
There are currently two teams heavily rumored to be in on Karlsson, the Penguins, and the Hurricanes. Both teams reside in the Metropolitan division which is by far the most difficult division in hockey boasting those two teams, plus the Rangers and Devils.

It was revealed which player would be going back to San Jose if he is traded to Pittsburgh.
Jeff Petry is an intriguing name to think about with a Karlsson trade. He is a 35-year-old defender who just put up 31 points in 61 games. While these numbers are far from earth-shattering, he makes a solid salary of $6.25 million for the next two years.
If Petry goes back to San Jose, it would ensure that the Sharks do not need to retain Karlsson's salary. This is something that the Penguins can offer that the Hurricanes cannot.
At the end of the day, Karlsson will have a new home come the start of the season and will look to contend for his first Stanley Cup.
