Jared McCann had by far the best season of his career last year. At 27 years old and in his ninth season in the NHL, he scored 40 goals and 70 points with the Kraken after a rough start in the NHL.

Drafted in the first round of the 2014 draft, he played his first NHL campaign in 2015 with the Canucks. He scored 18 points in 69 games and was traded to the Florida Panthers for Erik Gudbranson in 2016.
Then, he played three seasons in Florida before joining the Penguins. In 2021, he was drafted by the Kraken when they entered the League.

Seven Years Later...

Things turned out fine for McCann, but for a while, when he was in Vancouver, things weren't easy for the Kraken's star.
He opened up about that time in a recent interview.
"I could've used a year in the AHL...I think they gave up on me early, I really do. Mentally, it affected me a lot. [I] was in a dark place."
The fact that he found success only in his seventh season in the NHL shows that he's a Late Bloomer. Three NHL teams passed on him, but maybe that's what he needed to truly leave it all on the ice.
Who's laughing now? The Kraken beat the Avalanche in the playoffs, and the Canucks, once again, had a terrible year.
