With one year left on his contract, and apparently no desire to sign an extension, there's no question the Winnipeg Jets are looking to move goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. There's also little question that there's plenty of interest in his services. Frank Seravalli talked about the situation on a recent podcast, and shared who he believes is in the best position to snag him.
Their Window is Opening
Seravalli said he believes the LA Kings are in the best situation in the NHL to take on Hellebuyck and his $6.166 million cap hit. He added doing so makes the most sense as the Kings' Cup window is open, and adding a netminder of Hellebuyck's calibre would be the way to get the most out of the final year of 35-year-old Anze Kopitar's contract.
At the trade deadline in February, the Kings picked up goaltender Joonas Korpisalo from the Columbus Blue Jackets. There was some thought that LA saw him as a potential future number one. That ship seems to have sailed as Seravalli said the restricted free agent is unlikely to get a qualifying offer.
The Kings are also rumoured to be highly interested in in Winnipeg's Pierre-Luc Dubois. A trade to bring both in at the same time would be a blockbuster like we haven't seen in a while.
