This season was filled with lots of debate regarding NHL teams hosting Pride Nights, as well as players refusing to wear Pride Night jerseys. While much of the talk about the subject has died down over the past few months, it's picked back up during the month of June, which is Pride Month.

Red Wings Absent For Pride

The Detroit Red Wings are causing waves on social media following their recent absence from the Motor City Pride event. The festival is the largest Pride event held in the state of Michigan, and Detroit's professional sports teams are regular attendants at the event.

While the Detroit Lions of the NFL and the Detroit Pistons of the NBA made appearances at the event this year, the Red Wings were noticeably missing from the festivities.

While the Red Wings have participated in the event in past years, it appears as though they made the decision to skip the event this year.

Lack of Vocal Support From Red Wings

In addition to no-showing at the Motor City Pride Festival, the Red Wings didn't make any posts on social media regarding Pride Month.

While some fans see no issue with this, and think it's not an NHL team's job to support communities like this, others have criticized the team for not supporting marginalized groups such as the LGBTQ+ community.

Maybe it was a genuine oversight issue on the Red Wings' behalf, or perhaps they've simply cut ties with the event.
