One would expect the NHL Director of Amateur Scouting to be at the forefront of his industry. Unfortunately, a recent take of his is under fire.

Morin Rated Best D in the Draft

Almost every scouting firm agrees on a few top defensemen in this years' draft - David Reinbacher, Tom Willander, Dmitri Simashev, and Axel Sandin-Pelikka.

One thing that every firm also agrees on is that Moncton Wildcats blueliner Étienne Morin isn't in that class of top-end defensemen.

Morin's hockey sense is strong, but his tools and overall game leave a lot to be desired. Every defenseman in the QMJHL needs to come with a grain of salt as it is a very offensively-minded league.

For NHL director of scouting Dan Marr, he only sees the positives.

NHL Central Scouting director Dan Marr says Etienne Morin would be his first defenceman for the draft when discussing the crop of D.

Morin is by no means a bad prospect, but if Marr was truly right about him, more firms would have him ranked higher.

Truly a puzzling choice from the man at the top of his industry.
