In a shocking twist of events, former NHL player Ben Johnson has signed a professional contract in Germany. The disgraced former NHL draft pick was convicted of a serious felony in relation to the assault of two separate women, one who was underage, back in 2016 and hasn't played an NHL or AHL game since then.

Johnson Gets a Contract With Krefeld

According to Hockey Worldwide, Ben Johnson has been signed to a one-year deal with the Krefeld Pinguine of the DEL2.

Johnson was a 3rd round draft pick of New Jersey back in 2012 and played for their AHL team for parts of three different seasons.

Johnson's Crime

The following paragraphs include the sensitive subject of sexual assault and rape. If you've had past traumatic experiences with any of these topics, please be aware that the following section includes these topics.

When Johnson was a member of the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL, he committed two separate crimes relating to sexual assault within the span of a few weeks. The first victim was 20 years old at the time of the assault, which took place in a bar restroom. The second victim was only 16 when she was assaulted by Johnson, who forced her to perform sex acts on him in the restroom of a different bar.

The 16-year-old girl was intoxicated at the time of the assault.

How Johnson is continuing to get chances to play professional hockey after serving three years in prison for his crimes is beyond comprehension. We sincerely hope that Krefeld comes to their senses, and terminates Johnson's contract. We also hope that the victims have been able to find peace since Johnson's imprisonment.
