This morning's practice for the Colorado Avalanche brought confirmation of the worst fears for the team - Kyle Fredrickson of the Denver Gazette is reporting that star defenceman Cale Makar will be out indefinitely due to injury.

Personally for Makar, it's another obstacle in a frustrating season. Makar battled various injuries this year, including multiple concessions suffered in a short time span, causing him to suit up for only 60 games this year. Thankfully it's not another head injury, but coach Bednar is initially giving Makar's new injury an indefinite recovery timeline.
It'll be a brutal blow to the Colorado Avalanche if Makar is to miss significant time into the playoffs. The team is likely strong enough to win a round, perhaps a couple without him, but another deep run would seriously be impeded without Makar.
Coming off his Norris trophy campaign last season, Makar continued his torrid offensive pace with 17 goals and 66 points in 60 games played this year. He'll be a part of the Avalanche core for years to come, locked up to a $9M contract through the 2027 season.
