When the Toronto Maple Leafs acquired Matt Murray from the Ottawa Senators there were questions surrounding the veteran goalie. Most of those questions surrounded Murray's health and durability. Could he finally stay healthy?

Kyle Dubas and the Maple Leafs thought the answer could be use, but ultimately it appears they were wrong. Murray is currently out of the Leafs' lineup for the 3rd time this year. It had appeared after his second injury that the Maple Leafs were content to give Murray the net and let him run with it.
It didn't take long however for the Leafs to realize once again, that wasn't a likely answer to their issues. On this week's Maple Leaf Mailbag, Sportsnet's Luke Fox had this to say about Murray.
If the Petr Mrazek era taught us anything, it's that the Maple Leafs will pay to correct a mistake — and that injury-prone goaltenders may, indeed, be prone to injury.

Murray could be traded to a team trying to reach the cap floor, or even bought out at a not-awful price. Because the Ottawa Senators are paying freight too, a Murray buyout would cost the Leafs $687,500 against their cap in 2023-24 and $2 million in 2024-25, when the ceiling should spike.

It will be interesting to see what the Maple Leafs decide to do with Murray because there are definitely salary implications involved. More importantly though, the question has to be asked.
Why did Kyle Dubas gamble on a goalie who had shown in two different NHL cities that he was who he appeared to be?
