The National Hockey League has been around a long time, 105, soon to be 106 years to be exact. It's a rarity for something to happen across the league as a whole that hasn't happened yet, but here we are.

Yesterday, the NHL announced that they had set a a new record league wide for shutouts and hat tricks on the same day

Yesterday, April 1st, there were 5 shutouts to go along with 5 hat tricks on the same day for the first time in the long standing history of the NHL.

This proves two things, one, the offence is taking over the game in a way we haven't seen in a long time and two, the goaltending has also improved dramatically.

for both things to happen on the same day is pretty astounding and I would highly doubt you'll see another day like this for the remainder of the leagues history. who knows though, if thinks keep trending the way they are with both offence and goaltending, we could see more things like this star to happen far more often
