While everyone knew this update was coming, for Senators fans, it's still not what you want to see.

On Saturday, the Senators announced that Derick Brassard will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery for a broken fibula that he sustained during Thursday's win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Hull (Quebec) native suffered the injury late in the second period on Thursday after getting his skate caught in Felix Sandstrom's pads. Brassard needed help to the Senators' dressing room and did not return for the third period.

Brassard, 35, is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. In 62 games this season, he had 23 points (13 goals, ten assists), 30 penalty minutes and was a plus-three.
