After the NHL Trade Deadline it's rare to see teams utilize the waiver system. Any player not on a team's roster at the 3 pm March 3rd deadline, is ineligible to play on a team's playoff roster. But with so many teams operating so close to the salary cap maximizing cap space is still essential.

Today at the 2 pm waiver deadline the Colorado Avalanche announced they'd placed Brad Hunt on waivers.

Hunt is a 10-year NHL veteran who has played 43 games with the injury stricken Avalanche this season. Hunt signed a 2-year contract with the Avalanche during the off-season. This season he has 3 goals and 5 assists and has been a major surprise for the Avalanche.
