During the 2nd period of last night's game between the Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers, Ottawa's forward Derick Brassard suffered a gruesome injury.

Brassard was one of the feel good stories of the year. The 35-year-old won himself a job out of Ottawa Senators camp had has been a mainstay in the lineup playing 62 games and adding 22 points including 12 goals in a bottom line role.
Unfortunately that productive season was derailed when Brassard crashed the crease on Ottawa's 3rd goal of the game. Brassard's legs get tangled and he falls awkwardly twisting his ankle and falling on top of it.
Brassard was in visibly pain, lying on the ice and holding his injured ankle off the ground. Judging by his reaction, it appears he knew his ankle was likely broken.
After the game DJ Smith provided this update.
Hopefully he makes a quick recovery, but turning 36 this fall makes that a very challenging task for the NHL vet.
