According to Swisshockeynews.ch, ZSC Lions head coach Marc Crawford has been provisionally suspended following a request to investigation from National League director Denis Vaucher.

"Following on the request of National League director Denis Vaucher to investigate the issue, the single judge provisionally suspended Marc Crawford. The head coach of the ZSC Lions verbally abused one of the referees in the last seconds of Wednesday's game against EHC Biel by yelling homophobic slurs."

National League director Denis Vaucher commented Thursday on the incident, saying that he saw it on TV and that Crawford crossed the line.

"I actually saw this. Marc Crawford crossed a red line with these discriminatory remarks," said Vaucher.

He added, "It's not about taking the emotions out of ice hockey. It is not uncommon for players or coaches to use flowery language to address the jury. In the heat of the moment you can say 'f--k' or other words in this style. But if you attack the referee personally, as is the case here, then that's more than trash talk."

Crawford, 62, was hired by the ZSC Lions back in late-December after the team decided to part ways with Swedish head coach Rikard Gronborg. The Belleville (Ontario) native is under contract with ZSC through the 2024-25 National League season.
