The Chicago Blackhawks legend has been a mainstay in the news all season. Trade rumors, injury speculation, and a question in motivation represent just a portion of the discussion around Patrick Kane this season. Most of it can best be described as speculation.
We do know a couple things for certain, however. For one thing, Kane admitted his displeasure when the Vladimir Tarasenko/NYR trade broke. For another, Kane did not play his best game in Thursday's 5-2 loss to Toronto; a team he is reportedly interested in joining.
In 15:13 of ice-time, Kane had 3 shots, no points, and was a non-factor statistically. Per Natural StatTrick, 5v5 scoring chances favored Toronto 15-12 while Kane was on the ice, and he ended the game with a 36.21 expected goals-for percentage. Meaning 36% of the expected goals during Kane's 5v5 ice-time belonged to Chicago; 64% for the Leafs. Plus this beauty of a back check.
We now know one more tidbit of information with regards to Patrick Kane. According to Stefen Rosner of NYI Hockey Now, Patrick Kane has 'no interest' whatsoever in joining the New York Islanders. Assuming Lou Lamoriello has watched Kane play defense, the likelihood that the feeling is mutual is quite high.
If Patrick Kane gets traded, whoever lands his services probably won't need to pay a ton to get him. He's 34, an unrestricted free agent at season's end, is dealing with a nagging hip injury, and doesn't play defense.
Hardly a valuable asset, save for a 'cup of coffee' cup run.
