Evander Kane will not play on Wednesday night when the Edmonton Oilers host the Columbus Blue Jackets due to ongoing bankruptcy trials, per Jason Gregor of The Daily Faceoff.

Confirmed by Daniel Kaplan of The Athletic, Kane is set to appear in two separate bankruptcy proceedings in San Jose, CA for a total of seven days over two weeks from Jan. 23 to Feb. 2.

Kane's bankruptcy filings in January of 2021 cited $26.8 million worth of debt, including gambling debts among other things.

Edmonton has two home games in this window, including Wednesday's game against the Blue Jackets and Saturday when the Chicago Blackhawks come to town.

The 31-year-old has managed 5 goals and 8 assists in 17 games this season. He recently returned from a 31-game absence due to a skate laceration on his wrist suffered Nov. 8.

His initial timeline for return was between 3-4 months, yet he returned in just over 2 months.
