The Montreal Canadiens honoured former defenceman P.K. Subban on Thursday night ahead of their game against the Nashville Predators. When speaking with the media, Subban was full of praise for his former defensive partner, Andrei Markov.

Subban said that Markov had a massive impact on his career and that his number 79 should be hanging from the rafters of the Bell Center in the near future.

"When I first met Marky, we weren't always on the same page. We come from different cultures, we have different personalities. It's emotional talking about him because I used to go and sit at the Russian table every day for lunch to try to learn Russian. I know he appreciated that. So there's an appreciation between us, not just as ex-teammates but as friends." Subban said.

He added, "He's one of those guys that I think — and this is just my opinion — but his jersey should be up in the rafters. He's one of the best players, one of the best defencemen, to ever play the game."

Markov was supposed to be honoured alongside Subban on Thursday night, but due to prior commitments, he would have not been able to make it and the organization is planning to celebrate the 16-year veteran, who spent his entire career in Montreal. The 44-year-old had 572 points in 990 games with the Canadiens.
