This was a weird sequence of events which transpired on Thursday night.

On a routine clearing attempt, Colorado Avalanche forward Andrew Cogliano hit referee Michael Markovic in the back, leading to a Vancouver Canucks' powerplay goal, courtesy of Andrei Kuzmenko.

Then, Cogliano was charged with a 10-minute misconduct penalty with little explanation. After Kuzmenko's goal, he slammed his stick in frustration and offered a quick word to Markovic, so whatever he said must have resonated poorly with the game's official.

After Kuzmenko's, Vancouver would score 3 more unanswered goals and secure the win over the reigning champs. Therefore, any frustration from this one sequence would surely be understandable.

Cogliano's 10-minute misconduct penalty was a puzzling one last night and proved costly; Vancouver scored three times in 2:33 while Cogliano was in the box.

Therefore, it's fair to say that this sequence altered the balance of last night's game, which is interesting - if nothing else.
