Dreadful news to report, as 16-year old St. Paul Capitals player Cormick Scanlon has passed away after suffering through multiple strokes, the organization said on Monday. Scanlan played with the Caps' organization from the time he was a 'mini-mite' all the way through bantams.

Reportedly, the 16-year old's cause of death was chalked up to Moyamoya disease. The disease causes certain arteries in the brain to be constricted, so blood flow is blocked by constriction and blood clots, which likely led to the strokes.

A GoFundMe was setup a few weeks ago to cover surgery costs.

Scanlon suffered his first stroke on December 6th and was subsequently hospitalized. The initial surgery was believed to be a success, but obviously this was not the case. Scanlon passed peacefully on Christmas Day in a harrowing turn for his family.
