The NHL announced on Sunday that Nashville Predators forward Michael McCarron will be entering their Player Assistance Program.

"The National Hockey League Players' Association and National Hockey League announced today that forward Michael McCarron of the Nashville Predators will be unavailable to his Club for an indefinite period while he receives care from the player assistance program of the NHL and NHLPA.

Under the terms of the joint program, McCarron will continue to be paid while receiving treatment. He will return to the Club when cleared for on-ice competition by the program administrators.

McCarron's care will be administered pursuant to the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program," the NHL said in a statement.

For those who aren't familiar, the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program was created to assist players and their families in dealing with mental health, substance abuse and other issues.

The 27-year-old was a former first-round pick of the Montreal Canadiens back in 2013 and has spent parts the last four seasons in the Nashville Predators organization.

In 15 games this season for Nashville, McCarron has two points (one goal, one assist), 17 penalty minutes and is a minus-two.
