Despite formally announcing it, the Montreal Canadiens have added former NHLer Teddy Purcell to their scouting staff and he will be primarily covering Western Conference teams in Southern California.

"They all have something specific to them," Canadiens Executive VP Jeff Gorton said. "That's why we hired Teddy Purcell ; he was a pretty talented, skilled guy, power-play forward. Maybe if we're looking at that kind of player we can use him."

Purcell, 37, has ties to the Canadiens organization, with current general manager Kent Hughes being his former agent when he was in college and entering the NHL.

The St. John's (Newfoundland) native spent parts of ten seasons in the NHL with Los Angeles, Tampa Bay, Edmonton and Florida. In 571 career games, he had 307 points (101 goals, 206 assists).

"Very intelligent," Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis said about Purcell. "He has a seasoned hockey eye. It's an asset when you have former players like that who can evaluate talent. I think it's important."

Bringing in someone like Teddy Purcell to their scouting staff is big for the Canadiens, especially given the amount of experience he has playing in the National Hockey League and he will be more than able to identify players that can help the organization going forward.
