Montreal Canadiens forward Cole Caufield is in some pretty remarkable company following Thursday night's win over the Calgary Flames.
Thursday's contest marked Caufield's 100th career game in the National Hockey League and he happened to score the second goal of the game, which stood as the game winner. With his goal, that brought his career total to 40.
The 21-year-old sits fourth in Montreal Canadiens history for most goals through 100 career games. The three names ahead of him? Maurice 'Rocket Richard (82), Jean Beliveau (48) and Bernie 'Boom Boom' Geoffrion (42).
Caufield has been known for his goal scoring prowess for a number of years now, but being in the company of three of the greatest Montreal Canadiens ever for most goals through 100 career games is something not many Habs fans would have expected.
The Mosinee (Wisconsin) native is set to become a restricted free agent at the end of this season and contract talks with the Canadiens are expected to begin in the near future. Caufield will more than likely get an eight-year extension, but the AAV on the contract is something that is certainly up for debate. Nick Suzuki's cap hit of $7.875 million could be the benchmark, but there is a chance that Caufield's AAV could surpass that.
