Thursday night's game against the Montreal Canadiens was a rough one for Calgary Flames goaltender Jacob Markstrom.

In the opening seconds of the game, Markstrom came out of his crease to play the puck so his former teammate Sean Monahan didn't get to it. He ended up making it to the puck, while sliding, but gave it right away to Juraj Slafkovsky, who put it in the open net to give Montreal a 1-0 lead, 13 seconds in.
"I just suck at hockey right now," Markstrom said to reporters after the game.

He added, "I think everybody saw what happened. It's not a good play."

Then in the third period after a whistle, Markstrom appeared to slash Josh Anderson in the rib-area, then the Canadiens forward skated right up to him and faked cross-checked him, before being jumped by Andrew Mangiapane, who got the only penalty on the play.
On the powerplay, Cole Caufield scored his 13th goal of the season and it would ultimately stand as the game-winner, as the Canadiens took the two points by a score of 2-1.
"I thought the guys did a great job. Once again, I gotta be better. I suck right now, so I gotta step up," Markstrom said. "We're playing good hockey and not letting many scoring chances in, but we can't start behind every game."

In 17 games this season, the Gavle (Sweden) native has a record of 8-6-2 with a 2.97 GAA and an .889 save percentage.
Markstrom and the Flames will look to bounce back on Saturday night when they host the Washington Capitals at 10 p.m. ET.
