Detroit Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde told reporters on Friday afternoon that forward Tyler Bertuzzi underwent surgery this morning and is expected to miss six weeks.

Bertuzzi, 27, was hit in the left hand by shot from teammate Ben Chiarot during Wednesday's loss to the Buffalo Sabres. He was then placed on injured reserve on Thursday.

This is the second time this season that Bertuzzi will miss time with an injury to his left hand. During the second game of the season, he broke his left hand and missed a month of action, returning to Detroit's lineup on November 15th against Anaheim.

In nine games this season, the Sudbury (Ontario) native has four points (one goal, three assists), four penalty minutes and is a minus-one.
