A Brandeis University student was killed in a bus crash in Waltham, Massachussetts on Saturday night. The bus was returning home after a hockey game at Northeastern University, crashing at approximately 10:30pm not far from campus.

Investigators say the cause of the crash is unknown to this point. One student was killed, and the other 26 passengers each received treatment for a range of injuries once transported to local hospitals.

In an open letter, University President Ronald Liebowitz identified the deceased student. Vanessa Mark, according to Liebowitz, was on leave, but still remained in the community. Classes have been canceled Monday and Tuesday in light of events.

"I know that sadness over last night's fatal shuttle accident is rippling through our community today,» Liebowitz said. «We are all experiencing the shock of such a terrible accident, and everyone's recovery will take time."

In an email to students and community members the morning after, Brandeis said 11 passengers were admitted for further treatment while the rest returned home.

Waltham's Fire Chief announced early on Sunday that the incident is 'completely under investigation.'
