The Washington Capitals were back on the ice Sunday after being shutout by the defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night.

While the team was more than likely frustrated with their overall game on Saturday, there was a bit of excitement in the air at practice as forward T.J. Oshie and defenceman Dmitry Orlov were full participants.

Both Oshie and Orlov have been out with respective lower-body injuries. Oshie has missed the last 12 games, while Orlov has been out for seven.

Following Sunday's practice, Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette told reporters that it's unclear if either player will return next game, but said that they are both getting close.

"To be the extra player sometimes doesn't get you the reps in practice that you need to see how you're doing and to test yourself, so we put them on lines today," Laviolette said. "But obviously it's another step the right direction for both guys."

The Capitals will be back in action on Wednesday night when they host the Philadelphia Flyers at 7:30 p.m. ET.
