For the first time since coming to North America in 2016, defenceman Nikita Zaitsev has been sent to the minors. While he placed on waivers Nov. 9th and cleared the next day, he remained on the Ottawa Senators roster as a healthy scratch. That changed Friday when he was officially assigned to the AHL.

Zaitsev played in seven games with the Sens this season. He had just one assist and was a minus-3. He's in his fourth season with the Senators after being traded there by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2019. Zaitsev's contract, which lasts another season after this one, pays him $4.5 million per season. It was signed when he was a member of the Leafs; Lou Lamoriello was Toronto GM at the time.

Zaitsev and his father were recently outed https://twitter.com/EverydaySens/status/1590155944243384320?s=20&t=VF_pw0lY--M9Q0WUpUCwTg
