During a virtual news conference on Wednesday morning, the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League announced that former Florida Panthers captain Derek MacKenzie has been named their new Head Coach.

MacKenzie, 41, retired following the 2018-19 season after parts of 16 seasons in the National Hockey League with the Atlanta Thrashers, Columbus Blue Jackets and the Florida Panthers. In 611 games, he put up 125 points (51 goals, 71 assists) and had 331 penalty minutes.
After retiring, MacKenzie remained with the Florida Panthers, as an Assistant Coach, where he's been for the last three seasons, before being fired by the organization in June.
MacKenzie will be behind the bench for his Head Coaching debut on Friday night when the Wolves host the Guelph Storm.
