According to Anthony Di Marco of The Fourth Period, the Calgary Flames are exploring a contract extension for Milan Lucic. The veteran is in his fourth season with the Flames.

If you recall, Lucic was signed to a massive seven-year, $42 million contract by none other than former Oilers/Bruins GM, Peter Chiarelli. He is entering the last year of that deal, and the Flames clearly do not wish to see him go just yet.
According to Di Marco, "According to a team source, TFP has learned the Flames have been internally discussing and evaluating a contract extension for veteran forward Milan Lucic."

Di Marco says the team has not approached Lucic's camp with an offer just yet but insists there is mutual interest. The evergreen one-year deal could take effect, but obviously the player would like more term; say 2-3 years. After all, Lucic is still just 34. Still some gas left in that tank.
In 213 games with Calgary, Lucic has managed 67 points and 190 PIMs. The 2011 Stanley Cup champion embodies what it means to play 'Darryl Sutter' and is a great fit for the Flames' bottom-six.

A proper comparable for Lucic could be Philadelphia's Nic Deslauriers, but hopefully Flames GM Brad Treliving can keep the AAV down.
