Earlier this week, former Hometown Hockey co-host Tara Slone published a series of tweets aimed at Don Cherry, her former Rogers' coworker. The story gained a ton of traction, with most people's knee-jerk reactions being, 'who is Tara Slone?'

Oddly enough, that was Grapes' reaction too. After hearing of Slone's remarks, Cherry suggested it was a cheap shot and that he is an easy target these days. Three years after his removal from Coach's Corner, Don Cherry has been on the receiving end of more than the fair share of negative feedback, but like Slone's words he just shrugs is off.

''The first thing I said was, 'Who is she?''' the legendary coach told the Toronto Sun. ''I didn't recognize her but someone said she was the one always with Ron (MacLean). I didn't even know who she was.''

Slone called Cherry a bigot and suggested that his status was both inflated and misgiven. She criticized the longtime NHL commentator and his perspective, saying there is no place for his beliefs on a national stage.

To Grapes, Slone was just digging up old skeletons and taking an unprovoked shot on Twitter. To many others, she was speaking truth to power, speaking out against hate speech and bigotry.

Clearly, Cherry is not losing any sleep over Slone's critique of him. All these years later, he seems at peace with his situation, taking solace in the fact that he now runs his own syndicated program, The Don Cherry's Grapevine Podcast.

''She was just trying to get some publicity and got her picture in the paper,» said Cherry. «I don't mind. Now I know who she is.''
