The Buffalo Sabres are looking to finally push for a Stanley Cup Playoff spot in 2024, and according to speculation, they may look to start their season with a bang.

After years of building, there is finally optimism in Buffalo that they could take the next step forward in 2024/25, and while they improved their roster this past off-season, they weren't able to land a star. That's been the goal of Kevyn Adams and this front office for some time, as they have the duo of Alex Tuch and Tage Thompson leading the way, but their desire to land another top-six star reportedly remains.
According to speculation from The Athletic's Matthew Fairburn, all signs are now pointing to the team revisiting a blockbuster trade with their season getting underway.
«How strong the rental market will be depends on what happens early in the season, but Adams has the assets to make a move if Buffalo is in contention. He also has roster players who are in the final seasons of their deals, notably Jordan Greenway, who could be attractive trade chips if Adams wants to shake the roster up at any point. I think we'll see a significant Sabres trade at some point, but there are a lot of variables at this point.»
With Rasmus Dahlin and a young core on the back end, this team has the makings of a Stanley Cup Playoffs unit, but without that star alongside Tage Thompson, they aren't yet as dangerous as they could be. During his report, Fairburn named Jordan Greenway as a potential trade chip, and with many players on the roster in the final year of their contracts, they have the pieces to make something happen.
It's unclear at this piint who exactly the Sabres are targeting in a trade, but if they can find another star to pair with this young core, they'll be one of the most exciting teams in the NHL to watch this season.
