On Sunday, the Washington Capitals officially announced the signing of unrestricted free agent forward Sonny Milano and in order to get him some games in, they've decided to send him to the AHL.

But before Milano can report to the Hershey Bears, he must clear waivers tomorrow (Monday) afternoon at 2 p.m. ET.

Milano, 26, was a restricted free agent at the end of the season, but because he didn't receive a qualifying offer from the Anaheim Ducks, he became a UFA on July 13th.

After being one of the final prominent free agents out on the market, Milano opted to sign a professional try-out contract (PTO) with the Calgary Flames. His time with the Flames in training camp was pretty up and down. Ultimately, the Flames decided to cut ties with Milano, making him a free agent again.

The Massapequa (New York) native appeared in 66 games for the Ducks last season where he set a career-high in points with 34 (14 goals, 20 assists), adding 10 penalty minutes and was a minus-nine.

There's a pretty good chance that Milano will clear waivers on Monday afternoon. The remaining 31 teams across the National Hockey League had the opportunity to sign Milano all summer and after he was cut from the Flames, so if any other team truly wanted him, they would have done it already.
