The Washington Capitals will be without the services of forward Carl Hagelin for the unforeseeable future.

On Tuesday, the team announced that Hagelin underwent surgery to fix a chronic hip issue and that he is deemed out indefinitely.

"Caps forward Carl Hagelin underwent an arthroscopic surgical procedure to address his chronic left hip on Monday morning. Hagelin will be out indefinitely," Washington's PR Twitter account posted on Tuesday morning.

The Sodertalje (Sweden) native joins fellow forward Tom Wilson, who is also on injured reserve after he underwent surgery to repair his torn ACL in May. Forward Nicklas Backstrom is starting the season in long-term injured reserve after having hip resurfacing surgery in June that could keep him out for the entire 2022-23 season.

Hagelin, 34, appeared in 53 games for the Capitals last season where he recorded 14 points (three goals, 11 assists), 20 penalty minutes and was a plus-10.
