Earlier today, Toronto-based journalist Steve Simmons published an article asserting one of the worst takes of all-time, and -- shocker -- he got blown up over the internet for it.

One of sports' media's most...er, polarizing...figures, Simmons knows just how to ruffle all of the feathers and does so with consistency. From Simmons' piece earlier today:

''No one wants to say this because of the politically correct police and all, but those who coached Akim Aliu must cringe every time they see him in a news report or a commercial talking about what's wrong with hockey. Like he would know. By my count, Aliu played for 23 teams in nine different leagues in 12 professional seasons and rarely finished any season with the same team he started with. If that was colour-related, how is it that Wayne Simmonds spent just about the same 12 seasons playing in the NHL?''

First, Akim Aliu responded with the following video:

Afterwards, Wayne Simmonds -- to whom the journalist referred in his awful take -- sent out a scathing message back to Simmons via his own Twitter. The NHL veteran was obviously not happy.

After putting up a boneheaded take like that, the Toronto Sun journalist had to expect reactions like this. You just can't say stuff like that.

Wayne Simmonds said it perfectly. Simmons, and most others frankly, lay in total ignorance of the plight of black men in hockey and what sort of trials and tribulations through which they had to go. I also like that he added the part that this was the veteran 'being nice.'

That was a nice touch.
