The Calgary Flames made decisions on three players hoping to earn spots on their roster for the 2022-23 season, which included releasing both Sonny Milano and Cody Eakin from their professional tryout offers (PTOs).

Eakin, 31, was the first of the two to be signed back on Sept. 11. There was some hope that he would be able to earn a spot on the team's fourth line as a faceoff specialist, but it never panned out. He will head back into the free agency pool and may struggle to find more work at the NHL level. If this is the last we have seen from him, he had a very solid career which included 701 games with 110 goals and 256 points.
Milano, 26, had plenty of hype surrounding him heading into free agency, but was unable to get a contract offer. He instead chose to join the Flames on a PTO roughly a week after Eakin, and was thought by many to have a great chance at securing a deal. However, he struggled immensely throughout training camp and too will head back into the free agency pool. One would think with his high skill level he will at some point get back into the NHL, but that remains to be seen.
The other player to be cut from the Flames roster is goaltender Dustin Wolf. This move doesn't come as a major surprise, as the 21-year-old will get one more year of seasoning in the American Hockey League before being deemed ready. He remains not only this organization's best goaltending prospect, but one of the best goaltending prospects throughout the entire league.
