The Montreal Canadiens announced on Wednesday morning that they've agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with 2021 first round pick Logan Mailloux. The contract is worth $750,000 for the first season and $832,500 for the final two years.

Mailloux, 19, was selected with the 31st overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, less than a week after renouncing himself from the draft. While playing in Sweden during the COVID season, Mailloux took a photo of a sexual encounter without the female's consent and then shared that image with his teammates. He was fined by Swedish police for invasion of privacy and defamation and upon his return to the OHL in September 2021, he was suspended indefinitely.

"This is a decision that we have thought through carefully. Having Logan around members of our team and hockey operations staff for a good part of the summer allowed us to gain a greater appreciation of Logan Mailloux the person," said Canadiens General Manager Kent Hughes. "He has an opportunity to affect positive change and we will work to support him in any effort towards that goal. Logan recognizes the impact of his gesture and of course, the process continues."

The Belle River (Ontario) native went on to appear in 12 games last season for the Knights once his suspension was lifted, but also dealt with some injury issues. In those 12 games, Mailloux put up nine points (three goals, six assists), 13 penalty minutes and was a plus-seven.
