According to Bruce Garrioch of The Ottawa Sun, Senators' goalie Cam Talbot will miss five-to-seven weeks with an upper-body injury, a huge blow to Ottawa's goaltending.

Darren Dreger believes Talbot suffered a fractured rib at practice but played through it all week. Dreger says the goalie could miss as little as four weeks, but it sounds like Talbot will miss the start of Ottawa's season.

In a corresponding tactical maneuver, Ottawa claimed 31-year old Swedish goaltender Magnus Hellberg off waivers from the Seattle Kraken. Now, the Sens' goaltending tandem looks like Anton Forsberg and Hellberg.

Not great for a team looking to crack the postseason.

Hellberg has played 5 NHL games and sports a 2.81 goals-against average with a .869 save-percentage. His numbers in the KHL, however, are exceptional.

In 169 games for three clubs, Hellberg boasts a record of 81-64-14, with a 1.94 goals-against average and .928 save-percentage.

Perhaps, Hellberg can cement himself as a true NHL-calibre goaltender in this opportunity with the Senators. One day, he is on waivers. The next, Hellberg has a chance to steal an NHL starters' crease.

It's a funny world we live in.
